Release Date

Apple has announced that iOS 17 will be released to the public on September 18, 2023. This is the same day that the iPhone 15 is expected to be released.

Features

iOS 17 includes a number of new features and improvements, including:

  • Updates to Messages, Phone, and FaceTime: Messages will allow you to edit or unsend messages, mark conversations as unread, and collaborate on shared projects with others. Phone will allow you to filter out unwanted calls and FaceTime will allow you to use your iPhone’s camera as a webcam on your Mac.
  • FaceTime on Apple TV with Continuity Camera: You can now use your iPhone’s camera as a webcam for FaceTime calls on your Apple TV. This is a great way to make video calls with friends and family on a larger screen.
  • Option to create animated stickers from Live Photos: You can now convert your Live Photos into animated stickers that you can use in Messages, FaceTime, and other apps.
  • Improved Autocorrect: Autocorrect has been improved to be more accurate and less likely to make mistakes.
  • No more ‘Hey’ for Siri activation: You can now activate Siri by simply saying “Siri” without having to say “Hey” first.
  • StandBy mode: StandBy mode is a new power-saving mode that puts your iPhone into a very low-power state when you’re not using it. This can help to extend your battery life by up to several days.
  • Interactive widgets: Widgets on the lock screen and Home screen can now be interactive. For example, you can tap on a weather widget to see the current forecast or tap on a music widget to control playback.
  • Mood tracking and journaling: iOS 17 includes a new Journal app that allows you to track your mood and journal about your day.
  • Shared AirTags and AirPods improvements: iOS 17 makes it easier to share AirTags and AirPods with others. You can also now see the location of your lost or stolen AirPods on a map.
  • AirPods Adaptive Audio: AirPods Pro (2nd generation) users will get a new listening mode called Adaptive Audio. This mode automatically adjusts the level of noise control for you, adding Active Noise Cancellation in noisier environments and Transparency in quieter conditions.
  • AirPods Personalized Volume: AirPods Pro (2nd generation) users will also get a new feature called Personalized Volume. This feature adjusts the volume of your media in response to your environment and listening preferences over time.
  • AirPods Conversation Awareness: AirPods Pro (2nd generation) users will also get a new feature called Conversation Awareness. When you start speaking, AirPods Pro will lower your media volume and enhance the voices in front of you, all while continuing to play your media at a low volume.
  • Weather app improvements: The Weather app has been redesigned with a new look and feel. It also includes new features such as more specific location names, intricate details about the moon, and improved support for standard units.
  • Privacy and Security improvements: iOS 17 includes a number of new privacy and security features, such as the ability to create a profile for Safari and Passwords, and the ability to see which apps have recently accessed your sensitive information.
